Private Figure Painting & Drawing Lessons | Ottawa, Ontario
One of my favourite things to do is help artists build the figure drawing and painting skills to create the work they dream of making.
If you have a vision in your head of the art you want to make, but you keep tripping over some missing skills, I want to help.
Even if you are thisclose to giving up because you’re starting to think you just can’t do it, nothing has worked so far and if the art didn’t matter to you so damn much, you’d have thrown in the towel by now.

With compassion, humour and effective methods of seeing and drawing the world that you have likely new to you, we can shift things.
We can only draw what we understand. Which means that when we can’t draw something accurately, it’s only because we’re missing the information we need to understand it.
Let’s fill in the gaps of information together.
The same way that we can learn another verbal language, we can learn a visual language. No talent required, just a love of art and a willingness to stick with it (even when it inevitably feels painful and slow because learning something new is annoying that way).
So whether you’re a more experienced artist looking to get to the next level in your work, or a beginner with a vision that matters to you deeply, we can diagnose the stuck places and get you moving in the right direction.

Who is this for?
Artists of all experience levels who want to improve their figure drawing or painting skills, including portraiture. This is my area of expertise but I can also help with still life if that’s your passion.
(If landscape, architecture or botanical is your jam, I am happy to recommend other teachers!)
Whether you’re looking for some “spot troubleshooting” on a specific project or skill set challenge, or longer term ongoing lessons to really build your skills, we’ll customize lessons for what you need.
I have students who come for an hour or two and students I’m working with over months – this is about what you need to make meaningful progress.
Details, Details
Schedule & Availability: I only teach 6 hours a week, so my availability is limited. Lessons are typically scheduled for weekday/daytime hours if possible, but there’s some flexibility if needed.
Fees (all fees include HST):
1 hour lesson: $120
2 hour lesson: $210 – save $30!
3 hour lesson: $300 – save $60!
10 hour block: $1000 (pre-pay and use in whatever combination you’d like) – save $200!
*does not include private model fees ($35/hr), if required
Location: My private studio in Sandy Hill (Blackburn/Laurier)
Accessibility Note: My studio is on the third floor of a heritage building and can only be accessed by stairs (no elevator)

- Want to really work on a particular figure drawing skillset? Book me for a full day intensive with private model
- Looking for long term support? Come for weekly, bi-weekly or monthly classes of 2-3 hours per session.
