This is one of the first paintings I made at the beginning of the pandemic. It actually started as a demonstration for my students to finish a painting class that could no longer happen in person.

At a time when we were all adjusting to physical distancing, I decided to snuggle these pears right up against each other. This wasn’t intended as a protest against the necessary health policies, but as an emotional antidote to isolation; to express the yearning for connection at a time when we were all suddenly islands.

I’ve painted them leaning against each other, holding each other up. Their “heads” bow to each other, like they’re caught up in conversation.

Sometimes a pair of pears can say it all better than words can.

May I suggest a “pearing” with your Pears?

These two pieces would look fantastic with alongside this one.
