An Ordinary Reverence

A collection of 12 paintings: reverent portraits of ordinary things that invite us to slow down and savour the everyday beauty that surrounds us.

Available for purchase from Friday June 24 to Friday July 8

These are paintings made for the sheer pleasure of paying attention and laying paint on a surface; the buttery texture of the oils, the delight of light kissing the dimpled surface of a clementine.

These paintings are meditations on the beauty of the ordinary, the sacred in the deliciously mundane.

Simple, sweet things:

The cherry tree in blossom.
The beautiful eggs from the farmer’s market.
The gorgeous architecture of an acorn squash.
My favourite park.

I made most of these pieces during the first 12 months of the pandemic, when I was coping with dramatic changes in my life. It was about painting the things that feed us visually, emotionally and literally, to ground in the everyday beauty that surrounds us.

These paintings helped me slow down, pay attention and savour what brought me joy, even when the future felt uncertain.

While these aren’t portraits of people, they are portraits of the moments that make up our lives.

My hope is that they will in turn bring you the same peace, comfort and grounding in your life.
