Fields at Chateau Villandry
It was our week off and all we wanted to do was explore the old chateaux of the region. Villandry was reputed to be one of the more beautiful ones, with large English gardens and a moat full of carp.
The chateau was beautiful – an imposing cream-coloured structure, with gorgeous carvings, and rich interiors. The gardens were huge, and elaborate.
And yet, it was the simplicity of the fields across the street that caught my eye. The fiercely blue sky with clouds scudding across it against the orange-y green of the fields was just too delicious of a colour combination to ignore.
It seemed bright, hopeful and honest – beautiful without any of the over-the-top decorations I found at the castle.
