Eighteen months ago, I started on an adventure.

It was a quest – a quest for art, for meaning, for beauty, for truth.

It all began with why I make art in the first place:

As a child, I looked at the works of the Old Masters – Velasquez, Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer – and I knew that I wanted to make that. But I struggled to find someone to teach me. Then in June 2010, I stumbled upon the website of a small, private classical art school in rural France called Studio Escalier. I knew immediately that it was where I needed to be. I started making plans.

In January 2011, I was accepted into their intensive summer program, but I had none of the money to pay for the tuition. Cue the freaking out. Somehow over the next nine days, I fundraised $5000 and paid for my tuition in full.

Two years and several programs later, I haven’t stopped fundraising and I know in my bones that this is I’m where I’m meant to be. This journey makes my heart go zing!

And now, I’m on the last and most intensive leg of my journey. In 2013, I’ll be spending 10 months in France, two months of which I’ll be studying at the Louvre and the rest of the time I’ll be holed up in the French countryside, painting from a live model 6 hours a day.

I cannot wait.

This is usually my face when I’m around art.

Unfortunately, this dream isn’t free.

Hustle, baby, hustle!

My goal is to finish these programs with the least debt possible. Part three of my journey is going to cost approximately $30,000. I’m determined to pay for at least $20,000 of that myself (and maybe even all of it!)

Every painting and drawing you buy allows me to make even more art. By bringing beauty and inspiration into your home, you make it possible for me to make even more beautiful and inspiring things.

And, friend – I was put here to make beautiful things.

I am here to transform your world, to make art that uplifts, inspires, calms, motivates and sings to your soul. I see you out there, on the edge, pushing boundaries and searching for your place in the world, your happiness, your meaning, your voice.

I make art for you because I believe that you need it. I believe that you should be surrounded by art that lights you up inside and sets fire to your soul.

Because, lovely one, in the words of a lame makeup commercial – you’re worth it.

So who am I to set fire to your soul?

This journey has been a long time coming for me.

Sarah Marie Lacy, Artist

As a child, I dreamed of traveling the world, going on adventures, making art. I was going to ride magical ponies and become a fairy.

Then when I was 12, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and my life turned upside down. I would be too sick to leave my bed for weeks and months at a time.

For a long time, I stopped dreaming.

When I was 18, I said “Screw this!” and decided to build a life worth living.

Going to France to study is the result of 6 long years of stabilizing my condition, and reclaiming my independence and freedom from an illness that nearly took over my whole life.

I know what it is to walk in darkness. I know what it is to find light. I know what it is to lose hope, to find hope, to mislay faith and to remember who you are. I know the journey. So I make art for that journey.

treesriverfrance-smOption #2: Art, magnificent art!

In my head, there is a world that is spacious, calm, grounding.

In this world, you let your light shine out with ease. Your spirit, your soul, is unshackled from the doubts and fears and judgments that we put upon it.

It’s a world where your spirit runs free and kisses the wind, where you dance in the rain, fling your arms wide and the world can hear your cry, “I am alive and I am here!”

That’s the world that I paint. If I could, I would put my paintings on every single one of your walls, so that when you woke up every day, you were surrounded by that feeling. Everywhere you looked, your light would be reflected back at you.

I want you to wake up and feel magnificent.

Store is temporarily closed while I’m traveling.

And as always, everything here is backed by my year-long money-back guarantee. You hate it, you get your money back.

You could get yourself a painting like this…

The last 2 years I’ve been in France, I haven’t offered any of the work that I made there for sale. It’s been too personal and frankly, too messy.

But towards the end of this past year, the work began coming together in a new way. A way that I want to share with the world.

SO.

For the VIP donation, you will get a chance to pick one of the paintings or drawings that I create in 2013.
There are only 5 spots available.
